Dispatch from the future : poems book Dispatch from the future : poems
From online dating to beauty pageants, Greek mythology to road trips, Leigh Stein gives us resilient young women in longing and in love. Post-confessional--like Sylvia Plath raised on MTV, or Anne Sexton on Twitter--the poems seduce with a narrative hook or startle with a pop culture reference, all the while wrestling fresh meaning out of our fantasy-saturated modern lives.

June fourth elegies book June fourth elegies
The first publication of the poetry of 2010 Nobel Peace Prize Winner Liu Xiaobo, with a Foreword by His Holiness the Dalai Lama Liu Xiaobo has become the foremost symbol of the struggle for human rights in China. He was a leading activist during the Tiananmen Square protests of June 4, 1989, and a prime supporter of Charter 08, the manifesto of fundamental human rights published in 2008. In 2009, Liu was imprisoned for "inciting subversion of state power," and he is currently serving an eleven-year sentence. He was awarded the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize for "his prolonged non-violent struggle for fundamental human rights in China." Liu dedicated his Peace Prize to "the lost souls from the Fourth of June." June Fourth Elegies presents Liu's poems written across twenty years in memory of fellow protestors at Tiananmen Square, as well as poems addressed to his wife, Liu Xia.

Stag's leap book Stag's leap
In this wise and intimate telling--which carries us through the seasons when her marriage was ending--Sharon Olds opens her heart to the reader, sharing the feeling of invisibility that comes when we are no longer standing in love's sight; the surprising physical bond that still exists between a couple during parting; the loss of everything from her husband's smile to the set of his hip. Olds is naked before us, curious and brave and even generous toward the man who was her mate for thirty years and who now loves another woman.

Voices of the rainbow : contemporary poetry by American Indians book Voices of the rainbow : contemporary poetry by American Indians
Kenneth Rosen's haunting volume of poetry proves that the powerful and moving voice of Native Americans must be heard. More than two hundred poems embrace anguish, pride, and hope, representing twenty-four tribal affiliations, including, Sioux, Pawnee, Choctaw, Seminole, Laguna Pueblo, Cherokee, Anishinabe, Mohawk, Seneca, and Seminole. An Indian leader once asked a U.S. president: What visions, under the white man's way, are offered that will cause today's children to want tomorrow to come? In a sense, each poem in this volume is an attempt to confront and answer that very question.
