Drawing lines in the forest : creating wilderness areas in the Pacific Northwest book Drawing lines in the forest : creating wilderness areas in the Pacific Northwest
Through case studies of debates over wilderness boundaries in the Cascade Mountains of Oregon and Washington, Marsh (history, Idaho State U., Pocatello) traces issues of national land use/ conservation policy and economics since World War II. Arguing that pragmatic concerns over ecological integrity and biodiversity more than ideological notions of pristine wilderness have motivated environmentalists, he concludes that wilderness designations have benefitted both preservation and logging interests. The book is part of a series called Weyerhaeuser environmental books (Weyerhaeuser is a major timberland owner and producer of forest products in the Pacific Northwest). Maps and b&w photos of contested areas, uses, and stakeholders are included.

Green gone wrong : how our economy is undermining the environmental revolution book Green gone wrong : how our economy is undermining the environmental revolution
This far-reaching, riveting narrative explores how the most readily available solutions to environmental crisis may be disastrously off the mark. Rogers travels the world tracking how the conversion from a "petro" to a "green" society affects the most fundamental aspects of life—food, shelter, and transportation. Reporting from some of the most remote places on earth, Rogers uncovers shocking results that include massive clear-cutting, destruction of native ecosystems, and grinding poverty. Relying simply on market forces, people with good intentions wanting to just "do something" to help the planet are left feeling confused and powerless.

In spring 2006, Christine MacDonald left journalism for a dream job at Conservation International, one of the world's largest environmental organizations. Soon after she reported to the group's Washington offices, it became all too apparent to her that something is rotten in today's clubby, well-upholstered world of conservationists. Green, Inc. is a riveting first-person account of an eco-warrior's travails at the crossroads of the nonprofit and corporate worlds?one that will shock anyone who has ever made a donation to an environmental group.

Geneology Tall
It had been startling and disappointing to me to find out that story books had been written by people,
that books were not natural wonders, coming up of themselves like grass.
- Eudora Welty
