Temptation
3 stars. Describe the book: Rose and her family move to a house outside of a strict Amish community, where she meets Amish neighbor Noah; between them both, it's love at first sight. However, it's forbidden for the Amish to date "English" people, so they must be sneaky when they meet up, and Rose is faced with a tough choice; will she become Amish to be with Noah? What did you think: I think what I like about Amish themed books is that they're realistic but you have absolutely no idea what will happen at the end until you get there. The kind of decision Rose is forced to make is not taken lightly. I could feel her frustrations. Some parts of Noah bothered me, but I think it was just the conservative mindset he was born into. Who would you recommend it to: gr7+, relationships, Amish, forbidden love - A.K. (Grade 10) from Mill Creek Library Karen Ann Hopkins TEEN HOPKINS |

Perks of Being a Wallflower
4 stars. Describe the book: Written in a series of letters to an unknown "friend" Chbosky's novel is basically describing the first year of highschool for 15 year old Charlie, but Charlie isn't popular. he isn't a loser or a nerd. He's just Charlie. And the struggles he mentally and physically goes through. This is the story of love, life, and being a wallflower. What did you think: I had heard of this book and wasn't certain it was my thing. But then I saw the movie and thought "Wow, this could be something epic", and it was. It was relatable, it was emotional, and it wasn't sugarcoated. It deals with the real world problems. Not the usual oh high school sucks drama. This story is real and so are the things that Charlie faces Who would you recommend it to: Anyone tired of sugarcoated high school stories.14+ - T.T. Robopocalypse: A Novel
4 stars. Describe the book: Robopocalypse tells about the chilling and gritty war between technology and humans. The robots, led by an AI named Archos, commands the robotic army to rebel against their human masters. The war is told through reports, letters, and recordings that capture it in full detail. It tells of battles, struggles, deaths, and survivors. What did you think: This book is amazing. I don't know how else to describe it. It was so unbelievably intense. The feelings of survival, terror, and hope were so well described. Perhaps the most compelling part was the fact that it seemed so realistic. It played on common fears and showed a future that could very well happen. Who would you recommend it to: Science-fiction fans, action fans - B.W. (Grade 9) from Oak Harbor Library Daniel H. Promised
2 stars. Describe the book: Gaia faces her toughest challenge yet as she assumes the position of Matrarc of New Sylum and leads her people back across the desert to seek asylum outside the Enclave. However, in her absence, this already-vicious city has become even more cruel, and the cost of helping her people might be a bigger price than she can pay. What did you think: Well, unfortunately, Promised ended up following the usual pattern of trilogies. It started off alright, but by the end, I was really wondering why the author made some of the decisions she made. That's not to say it wasn't bad overall, but after such a great start to the series, I was very disappointed with the way she wrote this last book. Who would you recommend it to: Fans of the other two books in the series - M.B. (Grade 11) from Marysville Library Caragh O'Brien TEEN OBRIEN |

Flowers in the Sky
4 stars. Describe the book: Nina Perez is happy and complete with her life in the Dominican Republic, but a misunderstanding with her mother gets her shipped off to New York to live with her older brother. Nina wants to spend her life growing and selling flowers but her mother wants her to marry a rich man. It turns out that New York isn't at all as good as it'd sounded. What did you think: It's fairly short and I read it in a few hours; it was really good though, too! Everything was described well and vivid but without taking way too long or becoming boring. I could feel Nina's uneasiness as she found out what her brother was doing to get by, but surprised and slightly disappointed about where she decided to reside at the end. Who would you recommend it to: gr7+, bicultural, family, relationships, flowers - A.K. (Grade 10) from Mill Creek Library Lynn Joseph On Order |

Eleanor & Park
4 stars. Describe the book: In 1986, Eleanor returns to her family and her evil step dad after being hidden away at a family friend's house for a year. Not many people are friendly with her when she returns to school, even Park, until they start reading comics together on the bus and Park starts making mixtapes; they bond well over those, and begin to become more than friends What did you think: I couldn't stand Eleanor's family. I could not stand her mother for getting mad at HER for acceptable reactions to her step father's ruthless actions. While I thought Park was a great character, he did go a little too much overboard near the end, kind of ruining the vibes I'd gotten throughout most of the book; but that didn't ruin it for me! Who would you recommend it to: gr7+, 1980s pop culture, relationships, friendship - A.K. (Grade 10) from Mill Creek Library Rainbow Rowell TEEN ROWELL |
