Cuttlefish: kings of camouflage. DVD Cuttlefish: kings of camouflage.
More accomplished masters of disguise than any chameleon, cuttlefish are able to change their skin color and their shape to blend into almost any background. They have the largest brain-to-body ratio of all invertebrates.

I recently met some cuttlefish while diving in Japan. They were really neat, but I had no idea just how amazing these things are!

Highly recommended by Dawn

Moonstruck DVD Moonstruck
An "unlucky in love" Italian-American widow just weeks away from her wedding falls for her fiance's younger brother.

I hadn't seen this since I was a teenager and was quite surprised to find I'm now the same age as the main character! Such a lovely romance. I highly recommend checking it out, especially if you haven't seen it in a long while.

The lives of others DVD The lives of others
A 1984 East Berlin simple surveillance assignment: Capt. Gerd Wiesler, a Stasi officer and a specialist in surveillance, has been assigned to keep an eye on Georg Dreyman, a respected playwright, and his actress girlfriend, Christa-Maria Sieland. Though Dreyman is known to associate with blacklisted director Albert Jerska, a known dissident, Dreyman's record is spotless. Wiesler discovers that Minister Hempf has an ulterior motive in spying on this seemingly upright citizen. Wiesler's sympathies shift from the government to its people - or at least to this one particular person.

A stunningly devastating and beautiful movie. I loved it!

Who is Harry Nilsson-- (and why is everybody talkin' about him?) DVD Who is Harry Nilsson-- (and why is everybody talkin' about him?)
A brand new portrait of the late Grammy Award-winning musician, Harry Nilsson, who the Beatles once proclaimed as their favorite artist. This gripping retrospective traces Nilsson's rise and his turbulent life as seen by many friends, including Ringo Starr, John Lennon, Dustin Hoffman, Jon Voight, Brian Wilson, Randy Newman, Richard Perry, Robin Williams, and more.

One of my absolute favorite singer-songwriters is finally getting his story told. Too bad it is a tragedy.

Trainspotting DVD Trainspotting
Four friends try to make it in the world on their own terms, turning to heroin to escape the banalities of modern-day existence.

The second film by director Danny Boyle (who later went on to do Slumdog Millionaire and 127 hours), this is a brilliant, but excruciating look at heroin addiction. Fantastic soundtrack and great acting, but painful to watch at times.

DVD TRA574

Tokyo Godfathers DVD Tokyo Godfathers
The story takes place on Christmas Eve in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Middle-aged has-been Gin, aging transvestite Hana, and teenage runaway Miyuki are homeless friends who have formed a makeshift family structure bond. That bond is tested when they find an abandoned baby while searching for food in a trash dumpster. They try to care for the infant themselves, and travel throughout the city in search of the baby's parents.

Possibly one of the greatest Christmas movies you've never seen.

You don't know Jack DVD You don't know Jack
Angel of mercy, or murderous 'Doctor Death'? Jack Kevorkian is one of the most polarizing figures in modern American history, a man whose passionate belief that people have the right to die has brought him both praise and vilification.

Amazing performance by Al Pacino! A fascinating portrait of the man behind the controversies.

DVD YOU4142

Hard candy DVD Hard candy
When a 30-something fashion photographer agrees to a date with a precocious teenager, he gets far more than he bargained for.

A challenging film to watch, made fully worth while by the amazing performance by a young Ellen Page as a teen vigilante.
