Drawing lines in the forest : creating wilderness areas in the Pacific Northwest
Three Sisters, North Cascades, Mount Jefferson, Alpine Lakes, and French Pete are key wilderness areas in the Cascade Mountains in Oregon and Washington and represent critical stages in the protection of wilderness areas nationwide. In Drawing Lines in the Forest, Kevin R. Marsh discusses the roles played by various groups-the U.S. Forest Service, the timber industry, recreationists, and environmentalists- in defining the boundaries of these areas. He shows that pragmatic, rather than ideological, goals were often paramount. He also relates these case studies to ongoing wilderness debates, such as the spotted owl controversy and contemporary wilderness proposals.

Glen Boles : my mountain album : art & photography of the Canadian Rockies & Columbia Mountains.
Artist and photographer Glen Boles has climbed extensively all over North America and in Europe, but his first love is the Canadian Rockies, where he has summited over 450 peaks, often by a difficult new route. Many were first ascents. Over the years Glen has become familiar with all facets of climbing, from expedition climbing to mountain rescue. Boles' interest in photography and drawing has enriched his mountain experiences and made him well known throughout the North American climbing community. Although his work has appeared in many publications, this is the first book devoted totally to his black-and-white art.

Mammals of the national parks
For visitors to the national parks as well as armchair animal trackers, national parks expert Burde joins with Feldhammer (both: Southern Illinois U.--respectively, in forestry and in environmental studies and zoology) to profile 56 national parks and about as many mammals. The parks are described in terms of their geography, natural history, and conservation issues; and each is presented with a tiny map showing location in the US and a small color photo. Following is the section on mammals, each described in text and portrayed in a more generous-size color photo. At the end is a species distribution chart showing which mammals are present, possibly present, introduced, reintroduced, or extirpated at each park. The book is 9.5x11.5".
