Artists and photographers working in two-dimensional art or low-relief media are invited to exhibit their work at Oak Harbor Library. The library is visited by more than 700 people per day. This provides an opportunity for local artists to increase public awareness of their work and for potential sales without commission or entry fees.
About the Display Space
Display areas include wall space behind the check-out desk and in the Center for Lifelong Learning near the library entrance. The display walls are suitable for two-dimensional art and low-relief media such as fiber art or mixed media.
The adjustable art hanging systems are limited to a maximum weight of 20 lbs. per piece. Artwork must be framed or mounted so it can be hung on hooks on vertical wires. Picture wire is preferable to saw tooth or other stationary hangers. Fiber art can be hung from fishing line.
Precautions will be taken to protect the artwork from damage or theft. The Oak Harbor Library makes its best effort to secure its facility when not in use and is protected by a security system. However, Sno-Isle Libraries will not provide insurance for artwork and artists are asked to sign a Hold Harmless Agreement.
Selection Process and Criteria
Submissions will be reviewed for approval by the library manager. Selection criteria are based on artistic competence and suitability for the display space. Compatibility with the library environment and appropriate subject matter for display in a public building frequented by persons of all ages are paramount. No works that depict religious images, political images, nudity, sexual acts, profanity or obscenity will be selected.
The exhibit period is one to three months, depending on space availability. When artists are selected, the library's representative will contact them and schedule an exhibit period. Delivery and retrieval of artwork are by appointment only.
Promotion of Exhibited Artwork
Selected artists agree to provide photographs or permit Sno-Isle Libraries to photograph one or more images for promotional purposes. Artists are encouraged to submit a short biography or artist's statement. Artists who would like to present an artist's talk or facilitate a workshop for students should indicate this in their letter of interest.
Sale of Artwork
Artists are invited to display contact information such as business card, bookmark or brochure. They may also provide a portfolio that can be viewed by the public. Portfolio dimensions should be 10 x 12 inches or less due to limited space. Prices may not be displayed with exhibited work, but may be listed in the portfolio. Potential buyers will be advised to contact the artist directly. Sales of artwork will not be handled in any way by library staff.
No commission or entry fees are required. Artists will not receive compensation from Sno-Isle Libraries for artwork exhibited at Oak Harbor Library.
All work must be original and created solely by the artist. Interested artists should provide:
