Current Featured Volunteer
Name: Alexander P.
Location: Edmonds Library
About: I am a tenth grader at Lakeside School. Aside from volunteering, my other passions include Model UN (I have staffed two conferences, attended five others, and am the vice president of my club) and reading (mostly nonfiction: history and social and political commentaries). When it comes to sports, I participate regularly in Tae-Kwon-Do at the Edmonds Community Center (which I have been doing for six years and where I am now a black belt), skiing (both skate skiing and downhill) and bicycling, and I am learning squash as well
Why volunteer with the library? I volunteer as a homework-helper at the library because I passionately feel that education is a right which everyone deserves. As a somewhat privileged person myself, I feel that I have an obligation to give back to those less fortunate than me. To this end, I designed and implemented a free English summer camp in a rural area of Slovenia (my mother's country of origin), which I have taught for the last two years. I am also trying to give back to Edmonds, my community, by starting, with Ms. Castrogiovanni's guidance, a free homework help program at the local library, which is in its second year.”
