Singing – A Practice of Reading Readiness

Singing is not only fun, it’s also a natural way to learn language and boost vocabulary.

When children sing they:

  • Develop listening skills
  • Pay attention to the rhythms and rhymes of language
  • Hear the different parts of words

Parents and caregivers can help to increase these skills by:

  • Clapping along to songs to help children hear syllables and improve motor skills
  • Singing songs more than once

Reading books together can also help to develop these skills.  Check out these sing-along books to encourage more singing (and learning!) together.
