What books and movies grabbed your attention in 2022? Sno-Isle Libraries customers loved so many exciting titles, but a few rose through the ranks to become the most checked out items of the year. These titles run the gamut from thrilling novels for adults to engaging teen fiction to entertaining children's picture books. Thrillers were the most popular fiction selections among adult readers, with Run, Rose, Run by Dolly Parton and James Patterson, Shadows Reel by C.J. Box, and The Recovery Agent by Janet Evanovich getting the highest number of checkouts this year.
Books that celebrate good food and the wonders of the Pacific Northwest were your top nonfiction choices in 2022. The Best of America's Test Kitchen 2022 contained delicious recipes and informative equipment reviews, while Oregon and Washington's Roadside Ecology provided a tour through the Pacific Northwest's ecosystems and The Mountains are Calling showcased the beauty and excitement to be found in the region's mountains.
Our teen readers showed a strong interest in a diverse array of novels, including the Gothic fairy tale Gallant, poetic visual novel Ain't Burned All the Bright, and historical fiction thriller I Must Betray You.
The most checked out items among elementary aged readers were comical story Cat Kid Comic Club: On Purpose, the graphic novel adaptation of Encanto, and Sunlight on the Snow Leopard, a new entry in the popular Magic Tree House series.
Picture Books and Early Readers
Young readers' top checkouts included two entries from the I Can Read series, The Good Egg and the Talent Show and The Bad Seed Goes to the Library, as well as The Year We Learned to Fly, a tribute to the power of using imagination to cope with tough emotions.
The most checked out DVDs of 2022 contained something for any movie viewer, with sci-fi epic Dune, family favorite Encanto, and coming-of-age tale Belfast getting the highest circulation numbers of the year.
