Get a library card, the ultimate back-to-school supply

Caregivers and parents of students can count on Sno-Isle Libraries to help them with back-to-school preparations.

While stocking up on back-to-school supplies, make sure to include a free Sno-Isle Libraries library card.

Use your Sno-Isle Libraries library card to check out physical materials and access an array of free online education and research resources. Sign up for a card online or visit any of the 23 Sno-Isle Libraries community libraries to get one.

"Sno-Isle Libraries also provides equitable digital access for customers to check out laptops and Wi-Fi hotspots, and use printers and copiers," said Sno-Isle Libraries Student Success Service Coordinator Jennifer Sullivan. “Not everyone has the equipment or high-speed internet access at home needed to complete school assignments. The library is working to mitigate the challenges that come with that.”

Students in the Granite Falls, Lakewood, Monroe, Oak Harbor, and Snohomish school districts can also use their district-issued student identification to check out books and materials at any Sno-Isle Libraries community library. Visit the Student Account page to learn how.

The help extends beyond the shelves and walls of the libraries.

Sno-Isle Libraries’ online K-12 education help includes Books & Reading, History & Culture, and Science & Math. Teens can also research Current Events.

Sno-Isle Libraries’ YouTube channel offers 12 Student Success videos with useful, school-related help for students, educators and caregivers. Learn how to use the Libby app, search the Sno-Isle Libraries catalog, get homework help in all subjects, prepare for a big test, get help with research projects and source citations, use remote printing, and more.

Many of the Student Success videos show how to access free online resources, including online Homework Help for students in grades K-12. One of those free services is Brainfuse HelpNow. Online tutors are available from 1-11 p.m. seven days a week to offer help in every subject, in English and Spanish.

Middle school and high school students also gain access to the Microsoft Imagine Academy and can get help with writing and test preparation. Sno-Isle Libraries has more online back-to-school help for K-5 students and students in grades 6-12.

Once the homework assignments are done, use your Sno-Isle Libraries library card to unwind. Read comics and graphic novels on Hoopla, watch movies and TV shows on Hoopla or Kanopy, and download eBooks or audiobooks from several services including OverDrive.
