Michael Adams is the newest member of the Sno-Isle Libraries Board of Trustees.

Adams is the founder and executive director of Change the Narrative, a racial equity and social justice organization in Granite Falls. He’s also a social worker for the state Department of Children, Youth and Families, and volunteers and mentors at the Granite Falls Boys & Girls Club.

“I am excited for our organization and trustees to welcome Michael to our library board,” Sno-Isle Libraries Executive Director Lois Langer Thompson said. “Leadership by public library volunteer trustees is essential for us to provide high-quality service for the communities we serve. Michael shares our commitment to community service built on principles of equity, diversity and inclusion. Sno-Isle Libraries trustees play a unique role in connecting everyone to their library.”

Adams is also vice chair of the Granite Falls School District Equity Committee. He believes education, access and community relationships are important to building community systems. He wrote in his application that “the library system is a location that serves a diverse community population. The leadership of the library system can support and influence change in long-lasting ways. I want to be a part of that. Connecting our marginalized community groups to the vast resources available to the library is important. I want to be a part of major positive and proactive change in our county.”

Adams’ nomination to the Board of Trustees was approved in December 2021, by the Snohomish County Council and by the Island County Board of Commissioners. Sno-Isle Libraries trustees serve terms of seven years and can serve up to two consecutive terms.

Adams joins Susan Kostick (president), Kelli Smith (vice president), Rose Olson (secretary), Paul Ryan, Jennifer DePrey, and Martin Munguia as members of the Sno-Isle Libraries Board of Trustees. Information about upcoming Trustee meetings and agendas can be found on the events calendar.
