TEDxSnoIsleLibraries 2020 will feature 15 speakers in a virtual series

TEDxSnoIsleLibraries 2020 will happen this year, just not quite the way Sno-Isle Libraries originally planned.

The event was scheduled to have 15 speakers present their TEDx talks at the Edmonds Center for the Arts on May 89, with live video feeds to several Sno-Isle Libraries community libraries.

Then coronavirus precautions forced cancellation of all Sno-Isle Libraries in-person events through August.

Sno-Isle Libraries Communications Director Ken Harvey and TEDxSnoIsleLibraries 2020 event organizer Phil Klein didn’t give up. They explored their options.

With a public event out of the question, the virtual realm beckoned. Then it became a matter of rehearsing, coaching, expanding and polishing each speaker’s talk to present online rather than on stage.

Starting July 6, TEDxSnoIsleLibraries 2020 speakers will share their thoughts in a series of Zoom-based presentations that will be recorded and streamed on Facebook Live. Their ideas cover issues that include parenting, civility, community, relationships and dealing with stress.

During July and August, you can join other TEDx talk fans online as TEDxSnoIsleLibraries 2020 speakers present their unique ideas through 15 separate online events,” Harvey said. “Each event will present a different speaker and their idea in a unique presentation and interactive format.”

Klein is working with other coaches and Sno-Isle Libraries staff to record each TEDxSnoIsleLibraries 2020 speaker in their homes. Some are already complete and other recordings and rehearsals are still in the works.

“This is an amazing experience that’s happening here,” Klein said. “The speakers are adapting to this new process.

Klein said hes seeing some of the more introverted speakers “really open up in rehearsals.”

For each Zoom presentationKlein will introduce the speaker and the speaker’s pre-recorded TEDxSnoIsleLibraries 2020 talk. Audience members will be invited to engage in a moderated, interactive questionandanswer period after the speaker’s talk ends.

Klein and Sno-Isle Libraries staff are working out the schedule of TEDxSnoIsleLibraries 2020 speakers. Sno-Isle Libraries will publicize each event in the coming weeks with the title of the talk and the speaker’s biography.
