Sno-Isle Libraries begins site preparation for Future Mariner Library

Sno-Isle Libraries reached a significant milestone in bringing a community-driven library to the Mariner neighborhood. During the week of November 18, the property owned by the Library District on the northeast corner of 4th Ave W and 128th St SW will be cleared. This highly visible location will be the heart of the community and demonstrates Sno-Isle Libraries’ commitment to enhance community access to essential resources.

“This moment has been years in the making, made possible through strong partnerships and the unwavering support of our community,” said Eric Howard, executive director of Sno-Isle Libraries. “Together, we are taking the first visible step toward a shared vision, a library that will one day open its doors as a place for everyone to learn, grow, and belong.”

Skycorp, LTD., a general contractor based out of Arlington, WA, was hired to complete this work over several days. During this time, there will be minimal impact on the surrounding area and one building will be carefully removed, with materials recycled or salvaged whenever possible. This sustainable approach reflects the Library District’s commitment to sustainability and thoughtful building development.

Sno-Isle Libraries purchased the property for $4.5 million to build a campus for the growing community, starting with their library. The newly acquired property spans .8 acres and provides ample space to serve as a vibrant hub for learning, creativity, and community engagement. The project has received state grants totaling $4,153,940. The Library District is seeking additional grants to fund this project.

The Mariner Library will be a central community resource serving 230,000 residents in the greater unincorporated Snohomish County's Mariner area, what would be Washington's third-largest city if incorporated.

The next step will be site planning performed by Johnston Architects. Sno-Isle Libraries will continue to provide library services from our current location at 520 128th St SW Suites A9 A10.

While construction for the new library is anticipated to begin in 2027, the early site preparation demonstrates Sno-Isle Libraries’ ongoing investment in expanding access to library services and strengthening community connections.
