How does this service work?
Books By Mail provides library materials in reusable canvas mailers, delivered through the US Postal Service for individuals who are unable to visit the library in person.
To begin using this service, you will need to complete the application form. It may take 2-3 business days for your application to be reviewed. If you are approved for this service, you will receive confirmation. We mail your requested library materials to you (generally, 2-3 books or the equivalent size). When you are done, you mail them back.
Who qualifies for this service?
This service is intended for individuals who are experiencing significant barriers to accessing the library. To be eligible for this service, customers must also live within the Sno-Isle Libraries District (Snohomish and Island Counties, excluding the cities of Everett and Woodway).
How much does this service cost?
This service is free, but limited to individuals who are unable to access the library building.
How do I order through Books By Mail?
After you have been approved for this service, you may begin placing holds as normal by selecting Library on Wheels as your pickup location in your account. If you need assistance placing holds or selecting materials, please contact the Library on Wheels office at 360-651-7059 or booksbymail@sno-isle.org.
How long will it take to receive my items?
When we have received all of your holds or enough to fill a mailing envelope, the items will be checked out to your account and mailed. From that point, it can take up to two weeks for them to arrive in the mail. This time frame is taken into account when we set the due dates for your items. We will wait until we receive your return mailer before sending the next set of library materials.
How do I return items through the mail?
Postage for this service is prepaid. The package you receive will include instructions for mailing items back to us. Packages can be put in your mailbox or dropped off at your local post office. If your package does not fit in your mailbox, you can use the USPS Schedule a Pickup form to request a pickup.
What can I receive through the mail?
The number of items we are able to send in the mail is determined by the size and weight of the items. We can send most library materials through the mail. This includes books, DVDs, audiobooks on CD, music on CD, and magazines. However, there are some items we are unable to send, such as coffee table books, atlases, electronics, or large/heavy items.
