HOST: Hi, this is Jessica Russell I’m the Assistant Director of Collection Services at Sno-Isle Libraries. And welcome to Book Buzz.

Today, is all about Hugo Award-winning bestselling author Sarah Gailey. You may not think that spine-tingling thrills and chills go with summer, but you’d be wrong! The fast pace and twists and turns of horror and thriller genres are perfect vacation reads.

First, it is going to feel just like home …

JESSICA:

Sarah Gailey’s Just Like Home is a rich horror novel, perfect for fans of Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House, HBO’s true crime masterpiece I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, or David Cronenberg’s films.

The book starts with a phone call out of the blue, Vera’s mother asking her to come home after years of estrangement. Gailey masterfully shares Vera’s childhood and the knowledge that coming home is no easy feat.

Vera is faced with coming back to the memories of childhood and coming back to the home of a serial killer, back to face the love she had for her father and the bodies buried there, beneath the house he built for his family.

If this was not enough, when she arrives home, an artist connected to Vera’s past has moved into the guest house and is stripping Vera’s home and childhood for spare parts.

Then Vera starts receiving notes around the house...in her father’s handwriting! The artist insists it was not him, so where are they coming from? What other secrets is this house hiding?

I could not put this book down—it was atmospheric, deliciously creepy, and a real page-turner.

HOST - Jessica: Next, we are going to go on a non-stop ride of lies and betrayal, with our Collection Development Librarian, Bridget.

CONTRIBUTOR - Bridget:

Thanks, Jessica!

If you’re looking for a dark read to contrast against the sunny days of summer, then

The Echo Wife by Sarah Gailey is right for you! A thriller with sci-fi elements that feel lived-in and realistic, it’s perfect for fans of Big Little Lies and Westworld.

Evelyn Caldwell is a brilliant scientist who is a pioneer in her field. That field? Cloning technology! But Evelyn is forced to confront the reality of her work when she meets up with the woman her husband Nathan has been having an affair with...Evelyn Caldwell!

Or to be exact, her genetically cloned replica, Martine! After a morning that begins with a tense confrontation and ends with Nathan’s body bleeding out on the kitchen floor, the two women must think fast as their carefully constructed lives threaten to spiral out of control.

Full of the twists and turns that Gailey masterfully puts into all of their work, this title is great if you’re looking for an introduction to sci-fi or want a nice bit of literary stress to go with your morning coffee.

HOST: Thanks, Bridget – this sounds like a thrilling ride.
