Langley Building Buzz: Addressing your most asked questions

The furniture in the renderings does not look like our Langley. Why is the library trying to look like an Apple Store?

We do not like virtual furniture either! The renderings represent the space and not the exact furniture selected. Our expert Langley Library staff will provide insight into how customers use the library to find the right furniture for the space.

Will trees be removed?

No trees were harmed in the production of this rendering, nor are we planning to remove our trees. The native vine maple will stay rooted in its spot.

Will plants and garden be removed?

Long live our garden! Our bunnies enjoy their outdoor space.

Is the meeting room space out of proportion?

Although we can recommend some wonderful books about architecture and design, we are not architects. We hired professional architects to include a proportional meeting room within the space. Renderings sometimes look a little odd, but the final design will be in proportion to the blueprints. Get excited to host a gathering in your new space!

Will there be cozy reading spaces?

We hear you, there is nothing we love more than a cozy reading space. Of course, we are adding reading areas. You may just find us downstairs in the newly expanded area reading. Yup, that’s right, we are expanding your space downstairs!

Will the colors be stark?

Great question, but we are not there yet! No paint has been purchased; our staff is still looking at swatches. We are sticking to more neutral colors, so we have opportunity to add local color and character with other features.

Were Langley Library staff asked for their input?

Yes! They have been involved since the beginning! Local Langley Library staff are an integral part of Sno-Isle Libraries. The Langley Library staff are key thought partners on how our community uses the library.

Was the Langley community invited to give input on the designs?

Surveys, interviews, open houses, oh my! This is your library and we love hearing our community’s input on how you use it. One thing is clear, how much our community loves their library. After each design iteration, we incorporated new feedback into the designs. But don’t take it from us, check out what our community had to say!

Have the architects spent any time in the library?

Our architects have invested a lot of time inside and outside the library. In fact, we were so used to seeing the architects, we forgot they did not work in the library!

Are you removing books?

A library without books is like an ocean without water. We are very pro books, and we will still offer an expansive and deep collection. You will now have two levels to find books and cozy reading spaces. Since Langley Library is part of the larger library district, you have access to over 1.8 million materials.

Will the children’s area side door become the main entrance to the library?

It sounds like you may be overdue to visit your library! We would love to show you around and answer any additional questions about the upcoming remodel. The door in the children’s area has been there for 100 years, and children have run for the books but not for the door. The only change to the door is replacing it with a historically accurate door. We will continue to welcome you into the library from our main entrance on 2nd street.
