Sno-Isle Libraries maintains a Local Authors collection and we welcome additions.
The Local Authors collection is developed and maintained to promote reading, writing, and a love of literature within the Sno-Isle Libraries service area and to provide a place within each community for local authors and illustrators to share their work. We are especially interested in materials about Snohomish and Island Counties and western Washington.
A local author is a person who lives in the library district's service area (Snohomish and Island Counties, excluding the cities of Everett and Woodway) or who has ties to the area that are evident in his or her work. The librarians in the Collection Development Department will decide whether an author's work is appropriate for the Local Authors collection.
Materials added to the collection are donated, not purchased. Frequently, these works are self-published and may be presented in formats that we do not normally collect (for example, spiral binding). They can be checked out from any Sno-Isle community library but are assigned to the community library in which the author lives. We can accept one or two copies for this collection; if additional copies are donated, we cannot guarantee they will be added to the collection.
Sno-Isle Libraries staff are committed to providing library customers with up-to-date materials in good condition. In some libraries, shelf space is limited and staff must make adjustments to the collection to meet community interests. We cannot guarantee that local authors' works will be held indefinitely in the collection.
