Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 to October 15 as a way to recognize and honor the achievements, history, and culture of people of Hispanic heritage—past and present—and their great contribution to the cultural diversity with which we shape the future of this country. The theme of the 2025 celebration is: Collective Heritage: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future. Library Events
- Storytime with Marco Cortes – Lynnwood Library: Enjoy stories and rhymes in Spanish with Marco Cortes, along with songs and fun. Afterward, there will be time for play or a light craft. This program is designed for children under 5 years old accompanied by an adult.
- Storytime with Ana – Mariner Library (Everett): A Spanish-language program full of stories, rhymes, and songs, followed by time to play or do a light craft. Ideal for children under 5 years old accompanied by an adult.
- Storytime – Oak Harbor Library: Bring your family to enjoy stories, rhymes, and songs in Spanish, with time afterward for play or a light craft. This program is designed for children under 5 years old accompanied by an adult.
- Bilingual Storytime – Edmonds Library: Monday, September 22, 2025, 10:00–10:45 a.m. Enjoy a bilingual English/Spanish storytime full of songs, rhymes, and fun for little ones. Ideal for families with children under 5 years old accompanied by an adult.
- Craft, Chat, Chill – Mariner Library (Everett): Monday, September 29, 2025, 10:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m. Join a bilingual program for adults where you can make crafts, socialize with others, and relax in a friendly and safe environment. All materials provided, registration required.
- Sugar Skull Workshop – Mukilteo Library: Saturday, October 4, 2025, 11:00 a.m.–12:15 p.m. Celebrate Día de Muertos by learning to create traditional sugar skulls. All materials are included, and you can decorate and take home your own skull. For ages 6 and up; registration required. Led by visual artist Amaranta Ibarra-Sandys.
- Canvas Painting Session – Mariner Library (Everett): Saturday, October 4, 2025, 3:30–5:00 p.m. Relax and let your inner artist shine as you personalize your own canvas using watercolors and markers. Canvas and supplies included. Bilingual (English/Spanish) event for adults, registration required.
- Spooky Sensory Fun – Mariner Library (Everett): Friday, October 10, 2025, 4:00–5:30 p.m. Explore different textures and materials in a sensory play session perfect for young children and caregivers. Bilingual (English/Spanish), no registration required, move at your own pace through various stations.
- Sugar Skull Decorating – Oak Harbor Library: Friday, October 10, 2025, 4:00–5:30 p.m. Learn about the history of Día de los Muertos while decorating your own sugar skull with Seattle artist Amaranta Sandys. All supplies included, and you can take your creation home. Family-friendly bilingual event (English/Spanish). Limited space, registration required.
Community Events
- Hispanic Heritage Celebration in Arlington – Legion Park: Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month on Saturday, September 13, 2025, 5:00–9:00 p.m., with family-friendly festivities at Legion Park in downtown Arlington. Enjoy Lotería hosted by Councilmember Yvonne Gallardo-Van Ornam, Danza Azteca Yolihuani, live music by D’LuJo Band, and a new Glow Dance Party from 8:00–9:00 p.m. Free and open to the public.
- Exploradoras de Cultura: Hispanic Heritage in the Park – Kasch Park, Everett: Join the celebration on Sunday, September 14, 2025, 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., at Kasch Park in Everett. Families can enjoy performances, crafts, and activities highlighting Latinx heritage in a festive and welcoming setting.
- Lynnwood City Council Proclamation: National Hispanic Heritage Month – Lynnwood City Hall: On Monday, September 8, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., the Lynnwood City Council will issue an official proclamation recognizing National Hispanic Heritage Month. The brief civic ceremony often includes remarks and community participation.
- Día de Fiesta: Hispanic Heritage Festival – Downtown Oak Harbor, opens a new window: Celebrate Latinx culture in the heart of Oak Harbor on Saturday, October 4, 2025, 11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. This lively street festival will feature live music, food vendors, and cultural performances—free for all ages.
