Renewable energy is now a core part of the Darrington Library’s resilience strategy—providing backup power during emergencies and reflecting a strong commitment to environmental stewardship.
On June 5, 2025, a 28 kilowatt (kW) roof-mounted solar array was installed on the shared Darrington Library and Town Hall building. Led by the Town of Darrington, the project secured a Washington State Department of Commerce Decarbonization Grant and coordinated installation on the Library’s roof. The system is expected to generate 25,971 kWh* annually—saving the Town approximately $2,545 in energy costs each year.
The 2023 remodel laid the groundwork by reducing energy consumption through smart upgrades like motion-activated and daylight-sensing lighting. These improvements made the building solar-ready, and now that vision is fully realized.
Project partners include the Town of Darrington, Apollo Solutions Group / Northwest Renewables, and the Washington State Department of Commerce.
