Sno-Isle Libraries earns clean state audit for 28th year

Originally published Apr. 18, 2014

For the 28th year in a row, the Washington State Auditor’s Office has delivered a clean audit of Sno-Isle Libraries’ finances.

The latest audit results were for 2012.

The two-county library district conducts periodic internal reviews to test internal financial controls or procedures. In addition, Sno-Isle Libraries participates in an annual external audit with the Washington State Auditor’s Office.

“We appreciate their role as our public stewardship partner. Their review of our financial records certifies that our practices meet scrutiny.” said Jonalyn Woolf-Ivory, executive director of the library district. “The public should expect nothing less.”

Auditors annually examine library district controls and practices in the following areas:

  • Asset management
  • Cash receipting
  • Contracts
  • Financial Statements
  • Open Public Meeting Act

The independent audit published an opinion that Sno-Isle Libraries’ financial statements fairly represented, in all material respects, the financial position and results of operations of the library district for the year examined. In addition, all internal controls were found to be adequate to safeguard public assets. Auditors also found the library district complied with state laws and regulations, as well as its own policies and procedures in the areas examined.

“We take our financial stewardship seriously and conduct the library district’s business in a transparent and accountable way.” said Rico Tessandore, Board of Trustees president for Sno-Isle Libraries. “That’s why we appreciate the work of the State Auditor’s Office and the opportunity to work with them as accountability partners in demonstrating our financial integrity.”

"Achieving 28 consecutive years of clean audits reflects how hard the Library District works to maintain the trust and support from member communities and all of our customers.” said Woolf-Ivory. “Over 98 percent of our funding comes from the library’s operating levy. This funding enables us to provide community-focused and relevant library operations, materials, services and resources throughout Snohomish and Island County.”

“We continue to put improved controls in place to strengthen our stewardship." said Sno-Isle’s Administrative Services Director, Gary Sitzman. "This reflects our ongoing commitment to manage and use taxpayer dollars effectively and efficiently."
