Western Washington is home to a number of well-known writers, many of whom are featured in our Local Authors Collection. Here are some of our favorite authors with ties to Island and Snohomish Counties.

Jennifer Bardsley

Romance author Jennifer Bardsley is an Edmonds resident and former columnist for The Daily Herald. Her popular I Brake for Moms column ran from 2012-2023. In addition to romance novels, she also writes young adult paranormal romance under the pen name Louise Cypress.

A long-time resident of Clinton, author and screenwriter Pete Dexter won the 1988 National Book Award for Fiction for his novel Paris Trout

Elizabeth George

Author of the popular and long-running Inspector Lynley mystery series, Elizabeth George's Langley estate served as the inspiration behind her Whidbey Island Saga series.

Jude LaHaye 

From his rustic cabin in rural Whidbey, mystery author Jude LaHaye writes his next paranormal thriller. 


Nancy Horan 

Former Chicagoan and later-in-life Whidbey Island transplant, author Nany Horan is known for biographical fiction that re-imagines the lives of famous figures.

Former U.S. Navy Captain and prominent Langley resident Dan Pedersen is co-author of several Whidbey Island guidebooks and author of several mystery novels set in the area.
