All Together Now — Summer Reading Unites Readers

Summer is coming, which means Summer Reading is just around the corner. Keep your kids entertained all summer long with great books and fun, free events at the library.

Reading over the summer helps students maintain and improve on reading skills gained during the school year, so they’re ready to start strong in September. What’s more, it encourages a lifelong love for reading.

Building community connections

This year’s Summer Reading theme is All Together Now, highlighting the power of libraries and reading to unite communities and people of all ages. Books give us a glimpse into other experiences and cultures, helping us to feel more connected and knowledgeable about the world.

“Summer Reading gives us a chance to inspire a new generation of readers,” said Sno-Isle Libraries Director of Community Libraries Diane Lai. “Many of our customers recall summer reading programs as their first connection point with the library.”

How it works

Kids and teens who read (or are read to) for ten hours will get a prize book and a sticker. It’s easy to get started, and participants have the option of tracking their time online, using the Beanstack app, or with a printed reading log. Summer Reading kicks off June 1 and readers have until September 10 to collect prizes.

In 2022, there were 5,537 Summer Reading finishers, surpassing 2019 pre-pandemic participation. Together, participants logged close to 2.3 million minutes of reading. Let’s hit 3 million minutes of reading this year!
